Jong tegen oud
The annual ‘Jong tegen Oud’ match play tournament took place again this year on Sunday, 22 September. The weather was nice and sunny, and the playing conditions were nearly perfect for a fun day of golf.
This traditional challenge has proven to be a grueling contest matching a team of young whippersnappers against an older team of wise and experienced seniors.
It was also the first time in the history of this fine event that a woman player joined the brawl. A special thanks go to Bo Snel who took the challenge and showed us the way.
In the morning, after a quick coffee and cake, five groups battled each other playing greensome on the back nine holes. The morning match was a bit lopsided, as team Jong beat the pants off of team Oud: 8/2.
In the afternoon, after a fun and relaxing lunch, ten groups of two each played singles. The afternoon was comeback time for team Oud, and as the underdogs they came very close, but no cigar. Although team Oud won 12/8, it fell just short of the needed result.
In the end, the team Jong won: 16/14. Great job!
Afterwards, since the weather was so nice, we had the usual drinks on the terrace and later made our own BBQ with hamburgers.
The neary on hole 4 was won by Ed Schelkers who stroked his ball right down the smoke stack to within a meter of the hole. The longest drive on hole 5 went to Gerben Wigman who is already infamous for his awesome power off of the tee.
Those who made birdies were awarded a golf ball with the Hooge Rotterdamsche logo to commemorate their fine achievement.
Congratulations to team Jong and see you again next year!
